Following the simple tradition of tile mosaic, Mary Kanda has developed a similar process for making her mosaic jewelry. The work begins by forming a silver frame, a raised edge on a flat sheet of silver, that will contain the mosaic. Kanda fixes her colored glass beads in place with glue and tile grout that hardens to a strong and secure matrix. Recently, Mary has experimented with wax encaustic, which allows for even more variation in color. You can see more of her work at http://www.marykanda.com/.
