"Wooden construction, basketry and textiles inform my work which I develop using the process of repetition and layering.
I explore the contradictions of materials, layering wood veneer with silk, handmade paper, newspaper and pages from old books.
When I incorporate letters and ephemera my pieces have a sense of time and place. When I use silk I choose vibrant colours and aim to achieve texture from the silk contrasting with the smooth edges of the wood veneer.
My process of repetition, layering, constructing then sanding reveals some traces and removes some traces of my chosen materials giving each piece its own identity and history." - Tracie Murchison
