"Bruce Johnson's current ceramic focus is on a technique called ''copper flash'' raku. He creates this work by applying a copper matte glaze to a bisque-fired clay piece. The pot or vessel is then re-fired to the right temperature, removed from the kiln and immediately submerged in a container of combustible materials such as sawdust or shredded paper. As the materials begin to burn, the fire reacts with the copper glaze, producing a vividly colored finished product."
