"The McLeans’s bronze and copper pieces are not cast. Each piece is individually bent and welded from thick, flat bronze plates. The tungsten-inert-gas arc-welding process allows the McLeans to produce work without the intervention of a foundry. Variations in the patina, patterns and glass beads allow for infinite variety. Tiles and boats may be arranged in any configuration, from individual pieces to large installations." - Katie Gingrass Gallery
You can see more of the McLean's work at http://www.mcleanbronze.com/. I am fortunate enough to own three of their amazing pieces.
