Mary Filapek and Lou Ann Townsend are inspired by the awesome power and potential of the atom. Chemistry, cellular structure, DNA, mathematics, spirituality, the nature of reality, and our planetary travels provide their primary sources of fodder for color, form, and texture. The artists are drawn to exploring the void, that infinitesimal, space between breaths and atoms. Their patterns are inspired by the idea of language, the essence of communication. Cuneiform, African mud-cloth painting, Chinese characters, architectural drafting, and electronic schematics are all 'languages' that visually inspire them. The artists collaboratively design and produce jewelry in sterling silver inlayed with polymer clay. - The Artful Home
